Educated at Epsom College and a graduate from Kingston University School of Law, Selvan trained as a solicitor at Chester. After qualifying in 1984 he spend several years working in London in industry and with an international bank specialising in trade finance, credit and lending and project finance.
After re-locating to Gibraltar in 1990, Selvan worked as a consultant to KPMG managing litigation on a major international liquidation covering jurisdictions that included the United States, Luxembourg, Spain, as well as the United Kingdom. In the 1990's, Selvan was also retained by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission drafting banking legislation and investigating several instances of alledged breaches of controlled activity. From 2007 he has been the manager of the Fiduciary Services Department at Baker Tilly Gibraltar, that transferred to BDO Limited, Gibraltar in 2018.
Selvan is a Justice of the Peace in Gibraltar sitting as a lay magistrate, a member of STEP, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, holds a Diploma (awarded with distinction) in International Trust Management and is a Commissioner for Oaths. Selvan is also a Governor of the Loreto Convent Junior School and active in a number of local charities and residential property management committees.
